Icircle 2003 Celeb health profile: Anastacia 'I don't feel less attractive because I've had cancer ' Age: 29 Height and weight: 5ft 3in, 8st 3lb Health issue: Breast cancer The story so far: At the end of April, Anastacia told Now magazine that she wants to launch a breast cancer awareness campaign for young women. She said: 'It’s a disease that affects all of us, and we have to be more aware. I’d like to start a foundation that offers people information about breast cancer. It’s something that’s really needed.' Anastacia was diagnosed with breast cancer in January this year. On February 10, she underwent a seven-hour operation to remove a lump and reconstruct the breast. After that, she was told she would need six weeks of radiotherapy to eliminate any remaining malignant cells. She says having the disease hasn’t affected her self-image. 'A lot of people think breast cancer is a shameful disease because it attacks a feminine part of a woman. But I don’t feel less attractive because I’ve had cancer.' Anastacia revealed that specks of calcium were detected in her left breast during a routine health check prior to planned breast reduction surgery. These calcium deposits can be an early sign of cancer. She said: 'My doctor was insistent that I have a mammogram even though it was not required. He saved my life.' The courageous singer – who vowed, 'I have no intention of letting this news get me down' told fans that it had taught her something vital. She said: 'If there is anything I’ve learned from this experience it is to get a mammogram early. I think all girls, no matter what their age, should take a second and go get a mammogram.'
